My friend David and I had a blast this last weekend. I'll put more pictures and explanations up in the coming days. This one is an abandoned graveyard. The gravestones are just rocks pulled out from a quarry. They don't have any letters or symbols on them. the amount of stones knocked down by time and laying down under the grass almost pave the entire mound. I thought that it might be from before Christian burial was introduced to these parts.
We stopped to see it and I asked an old farmer who was walking by about it. He said that it was about 500 years old and they were all Turkish people. This is not like any Turkish graveyard I've seen, so I think that the people might have been killed in battle. In the next town there is a church where 2000 Bulgarians were killed by the Turks possibly at another time. The area is beautiful but has such a bloody history to it. (click image to see larger)
You"ve got to see this!
